Since 2003, the car has achieved many Championship successes and class wins. Originally competing in 'road car' trim and class A3 in the Scottish Hillclimb Championship until 2009 then a move to Modified Production Saloons allowed us to compete on Avon slicks. Other parts of the car that we developed meant the car was no longer eligible for the road car class. These developments were: carbon fibre doors, sequential gearchange and suspension changes.
The last year of competing in road car class we achieved a 2nd place in the Road Car Division and a class win. That year also saw us collect the Grampian Automobile Club trophy (for the 2nd time) and we won the Scottish Speed Championship, certainly one of our most successful seasons in terms of titles.
The season is over for us in Scotland this year and our final results are a 1st in the ModProd Division and 5th overall in the Scottish Hillclimb Championship, in a position normally occupied by a single seater!
Donald also holds many class records around the country due to the overall performance of the Evo
Fintray Hillclimb - 28.20s (a 27.91 in practice!)
Doune Hillclimb - 45.13s
Forrestburn Hillclimb - 45.55s
Prescott Hillclimb - 44.37s
There are many venues we intend to compete at in the future, some of which we have been at before and due to weather/mechanical misfortune the records were unattainable. We got within 0.09s of the record at Loton Park on the first visit there and tried to break the record at the 2nd visit but had a gearbox failure and had to retire the car. Harewood Hilllcimb this year we went below the class record of Simon Bainbridge (59.32s, that had stood for 7 years) only to be beaten again by the rather quick Subaru of Steven Darley. This new record of 58.32s is on our hitlist for next year as on our 2nd ever visit to Harewood we still did a run of 58.91s, with more to come.
Again reliability stopped us going for the Shelsley Walsh class record of 29.16s held by Roger Banks in the mighty Audi S4 Twin Turbo. Shelsley is a power hill and we intend to visit there next year.
Now the wnter development starts. Our intention is to remake the underfloor in a lighter composite, remove a lot of the weight from the Evo - bearing in mind it's still road legal and still has most of the comforts associated with a daily drive. Elec windows, central locking, most of the interior and climate control, dashboard and roofcloth are still fitted, The car also has its original factory glass. We hope to see a weight reduction to around 1050kg, possible by the use of our lightweight tubular subframes, titanium propshaft etc
